Our First Jane's Walk - Street Art in Woodfords Corner

Several neighbors took a community walk and talk looking at street art in Woodfords Corner on May 7 as part of the international Jane’s Walk weekend. Jane’s Walk is a global festival of free, volunteer-led walking conversations inspired by community activist Jane Jacobs. Jane’s Walks combine the simple act of exploring a place with personal observations, local history, and civic engagement. The annual Jane’s Walk festival takes place the first weekend in May, in more than 200 cities and towns around the globe.

Murals, graffIti, sculpture, lights, storefronts – we viewed 10 examples of “art” in Woodfords Corner (Google Map) and shared our thoughts, ideas and memories about what makes “public art” and how this shapes the character of our neighborhood hub. What is art? Who decides?  What does this piece mean? What is the artist conveying?  How does it work in this location? Is that advertising? Is it decoration?
