Congratulations to FWC's Grad Assistant Katie on her New Role at Maine's DoE

Congratulations to Katie, one of FWC’s Graduate Assistant, on her new job! Since starting with us last Spring, she has worked hard to help make the Woodfords Corner Farmers Market possible. In addition her position at FWC, and her new role with the Maine Department of Education,

In January, our Graduate Assistant Katie Knowles started her new job as the Farm and Sea to School Coordinator for the Maine Department of Education in Child Nutrition. There, she oversees the department's farm to school efforts by coordinating, training, and providing technical assistance to Maine schools and local food producers to get Maine food into Maine schools. She manages the state's Harvest of the Month program, a national campaign that promotes the use of seasonally available, local products in schools. She also oversees the State Local Foods Fund, a funding source for schools to get reimbursed for using local food.

She is thrilled to utilize her experience as FWC's farmer's market manager and looks forward to continuing her commitment to improving Maine’s food system in this position.
